Pull the Plug on Ray Comfort

Rarely have I seen such ignorance and lunacy in one individual. But these two traits are both present in Ray Comfort. Somehow I ended up visiting his newest attempt to lie to the masses with his most recent website, Pull the Plug On Atheism.

I'm certainly no stranger to Comfort's incoherent rambling that he mistakes for reasoned argument since I've refuted two of his books a few years ago, as well as a few episodes of his silly Way of the Master television show.

I was browsing the website when I came across these two videos:

This one seeks to rally christians into falsely believing the u.s. is a "christian nation" when nothing could be further from the truth, as I've proven in my review of The Delusion of Disbelief. The video claims that atheists are trying to stop christians from exercising their rights to express their beliefs in public, but when they go to their examples that claim to show this, I realized they've pulled a bait and switch on the viewers not observant enough to catch it.

For examples, they give the following (a partial list): Protesting nativity scenes, and public prayer; trying to stop the Gideons from handing out bibles in schools; trying to remove "under god" from the pledge of allegiance.

Most of the examples they give have absolutely nothing to do with their "liberty" to "love and worship" their imaginary friend. They're actually legit separation of church and state issues. Of course, depending on the circumstances they do list the attempts to stop public prayer, but they give no specific examples so I cannot tell what they're claiming as an infringement upon their rights.

If Ray and Kirk aren't pulling a bait and switch they use outright strawman arguments, like this one:

I set out to debunk many of these claims in a recent post refuting arguments for god and I show that for one, the universe very well could be eternal, and two, the big bang model is more complex then they make it appear. Then they use something that looks like a childrens' television program as "proof" that scientists claim that the universe came from nothing! If I'm correct about that Animal Planet episode being for children, then it would easily explain the very crude description of the big bang. Children wouldn't understand all the science behind it so they water it down!

If all these damn theists would actually keep up with the scientific research, no scientist and no atheist think something came from nothing!

Help me pull the plug on Ray Comfort's stupidity and ignorance.

  1. The big question I have is how on earth do you possibly reason with people like Ray. There are many poor masochists over at his site who respond to every post Attempting to correct him, and nothing ever changes. Even when he responds to them directly he usually makes no effort to actually answer the question asked.

The fact seems to be, the kind of brainwashing people like Ray are subjected to (or subject themselves to) is close to impossible to undo, after many years of pain trying to get these people just argue against the *actual* theory of evolution instead of their straw man version, it just seems a lost cause.

  2. Hi Chris,

I agree you with 100%. I used to be one of those atheists at his blog chopping at the bit trying to get him to debate me. What little debating I did do with him made me realize how completely ignorant he is and I gave up after a while.
