As I mentioned a few months ago, today the speed and I believe red light cameras too will start to come down. Unfortunately, according to Camera Fraud, there were not enough signatures to ban the system outright and the cameras could come back sometime in the future.
Of course, I realized something. These cameras that are coming down is not really a victory at all. Why? Because while driving lately I’ve seen many cops sitting on the side of the road with their damn radar guns clocking people. It’s the same old shit...though I also realized that I liked the cameras better because they were easier to spot! But some might argue, and I was tempted to do this at first, that at least they’re not spying on us and recording us 24/7 anymore. But then I remembered that they still are. The hundreds or thousands of tiny cameras that have gone up all over the state pisses me off. Since I wrote the post Big Brother is Watching.... about a year ago I’ve noticed even more cameras that have been put in place about everywhere like the ones in the preceding link. It’s rare anymore that I don’t see them and my guess as to why they did this was because they had a feeling the political climate might get too much for their little spying and revenue generating machines so they began installing replacement cameras all over the valley.
We’ve become a god damn police state and it sickens me.While some, like CameraFraud, have applauded the taking down of the cameras, as I asked in the title, what in the hell did we really accomplish? They’ve simply replaced the cameras with other cameras and pigs that steal peoples’ money for a mostly harmless activity!
Every once in a while, I wonder if I'm too harsh on Libertarians. Then I read some of what they write, discover that they are totally hysterical over really trivial things and go into denial over any suggestion that something is for the public good, and are kind of jerks, and start to wonder if I'm too harsh on authoritarians instead.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Mr./Ms. Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteYour comment puzzles me but I’m afraid you don’t have your facts right. Libertarians and anarchists don’t get “hysterical” over “trivial” things, but issues that are serious privacy and freedom issues. Cameras, as I've noted in the past, that are supposedly there purely for the “public good" have been used in clear violations of private citizens’ rights. Even more, a large study done in another police state, England, has shown that despite cameras covering much ground 80% of crimes are still unsolved.
It’s also clear you are not aware of the fact that in every place the speed cameras were installed (not to mention red-light cameras) accidents either stayed the same or they increased.
In some cases the cameras contributed to accidents and deaths:
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
So, in no way are the opponents of cameras being “hysterical” or getting worked up over trivial matters. Perhaps if it wasn’t for statists such as yourself (I’m assuming that from your mocking tone) the government wouldn’t so easily take us over, but like religion, the government has it’s illogical and brainwashed sheep to help it gain more power and control over people.
