Today in the early morning hours police arrived at Zuccotti Park in New York with dump trucks in their attempts to clear the encampment of the protesters. Not only were most people arrested but all of their tents and other belongings were thrown into a garbage truck and thrown away. This blatant and disgusting act by the police and local government infuriates me. They not only violated a major moral precept of humanity (theft of their belongings) but they also trampled ( once again) all over their constitutional rights to assemble in protest. Their actions are even more horrendous given the fact that not only did they steal their belongings but they trashed them! Likely thousands of dollars worth of personal property just taken and thrown away for no good reason. I also wouldn't be surprised if they refuse to compensate the people by giving them an approximate cash value for all of the personal property they destroyed. It's disgusting. Here is today's Democracy Now broadcast about this incident.
